1987 Sig 1/4 Scale J-3 Cub Restoration
This Sig Cub was built in 1987 by none other than yours truly. I was 16 years old at the time and boy does the workmanship show it! At that time I had more of a slap ’em together and get ’em in the air mentality than I do nowadays. I flew this airplane on an O.S. Max 1.08 glow engine and it was WAY over powered with that…1/4 throttle takeoffs were the norm. After flying it for a couple years, the Cub was sold to a club member circa 1990. His intention was to strip the covering and patch it up a little and then recover it and get it back in the air. Strip the covering….check. Fill some areas with balsa filler….check. Recover…not so check. The uncovered airframe hung in a garage for 23 years until I bought it back from him in 2013. Here you can see the transformation of the Cub to a DLE 30cc gas powered glider tow plane.
