Bud Nosen Aeronca Champ

This little .40 size Champ was built for a customer in Texas.  It is a Bud Nosen design but was a crappy kit put out by A&A Industries after they purchased the Nosen line.  There aren’t any actual construction pictures but the framing pictures might be of some use to anyone stuck on a building point.

    Hello,
I recently bought all of a fellow modelers “hangar”. Among all I had purchased was a Bun Nosen Aeronca Champ kit. It’s nearly complete but as you say, I’m stuck! To start, do you have any leads on where I can purchase a set of original A&A kit plans? The previous owner cut the original blue prints up so bad and they are so faded I’m having legibility problems! I do have the original build instructions but, HA!, they consist of a two page typewriter written, vague, step-by-step that don’t fit the two pages of pictures! I am an accomplished builder and would like to finish this plane but I could use any and all the help I can get. Thanks for the pictures the are helpful.

P.S. I would gladly share a copy of my original kit instructions (such as the are) with you.

    • Stan,
Welcome to the world of trying to figure out a Bud Nosen design. Most of his designs came with a page or two of typewritten “instructions” that weren’t of much help at all. I have not been able to find the .40 size Champ plans anywhere online but the 1/4 scale plans of his Champ are available at Outerzone. I do however, for some odd reason, have a PDF of the .40 size Citabria fuselage plan which should help you a bit. I am fairly certain that the only differences in the Bud Nosen .40 size Citabria and Aeronca Champ are the shape of the tail feathers and the wing tips. You can download the PDF HERE. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you very much for your immediate response and information, Brent. You have given me the most valuable piece of information I have so far, the cross reference of the Champ to the Citabra! Since I’m stuck on the mid section of the wing, missing that part of the plans, I’m sure this will help me get through this build. Off the subject, FYI, I also have an extensive background in CAD/CAM operations. I am a retired Design, Associate Engineer for an orthopedic appliance company here in Warsaw Indiana. I envy you in the way you have incorporated your career knowledge into the modeling hobby that you obviously love. Keep up the good work!
    Thank you again,
